  • Category: National Park
  • Activity: Day Trip
  • Location: Southwest of Punta Cana
  • Price: starting at $69
  • Arriving from Natura Park: accessible by boat only

This picturesque island off the southern coast of the Dominican Republic is without a doubt one of the best Punta Cana excursions. This tropical oasis offers postcard scenery where you can enjoy fine white sand, turquoise waters and even mingle with starfish in the natural pools. A government protected Punta Cana nature reserve, the island maintains its original untouched beauty. You may also recognize the island from movies such as Pirates of the Carribean and The Blue Lagoon.

There are many companies which offer tours in Punta Cana to Saona Island. You can choose many different types of tours which will vary in price. If you are looking to hop aboard a catamaran then it takes roughly two hours to get to the island from Punta Cana, whereas a speedboat takes around 40 minutes. We highly advise buying a package which includes food as it makes the trip less stressful and also allows you to enjoy some authentic Dominican dishes. Be sure and pack typical beach accessories such as towels, sunscreen, bathing suit and sunglasses. We also advise bringing snorkeling gear if it isn’t provided, extra money for tipping and a waterproof camera if you have one.

  • Location: Cabeza de Toros, Catalina Island
  • Price: free and/or paid excursions
  • Distance from Natura Park: varies

If you’re looking for some of the best snorkeling in Punta Cana then the Blau Natura Park Beach Eco Resort & Spa is a great place to start! Situated along the Cabeza de Toro beach, the area boasts low boat traffic and is moderately sheltered from waves meaning that snorkeling from the shore is wonderful. We offer one of the few resorts in Punta Cana where you can enjoy quality snorkeling right from the doorstep. We also highly recommend a snorkeling in Catalina Island as it offers calm and clear waters which are ideal for snorkeling. Along Catalina Island you will also find “The Wall” which is considered one of the best reefs on the country. Certainly one of the most enjoyable punta cana day trips, grab your mask and goggles and head for the crystal clear waters off the Dominican Republic!

While Punta Cana offers fantastic snorkeling, it may not quite compare to places such as the Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos or Mexico which generally offer more tranquil waters that don’t impact the reef as much. However, Punta Cana is still an incredible place for snorkeling! If you want to enjoy snorkeling but aren’t too invested, then our very own hotel offers great snorkeling without having to leave the premises. Just ask for some snorkeling gear and head on your way. Otherwise, we highly recommend a day trip to Catalina Island which starts around $99. During your journey on the catamaran you will stop at a few wonderful snorkeling spots while also taking in a bit of the local scenery and history. The excursion includes all of the equipment, food and drink and transportation. Just make sure to bring sunscreen, a towel, and some extra money just in case!

  • Activity: there are many choices
  • Location: northwest of Natura Park
  • Distance from Natura Park: 9 miles
  • Address: Bavaro Beach, Punta Cana 23000, Dominican Republic

Considered one of the best beaches in the world due to its fine white sand, crystal clear waters and picturesque scenery, Bavaro Beach is a must visit. One of the top things to do in Punta Cana, this highly developed area offers everything from hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, dance clubs and golf. Visitors can also enjoy incredible water sports such as diving, snorkeling, parasailing and windsurfing. Bavaro Beach offers something for everyone, so whether you are with your family, friends or loved one you’re sure to enjoy a day out on this wonderful area.

One way to reach Bavaro Beach is by car or taxi and it takes roughly 25 minutes from the resort. Or, if you’d like to get a bit of exercise you could walk north along the beach from the resort and you’d reach the stunning waters of Bavaro in a little over an hour depending on your pace. If you plan on enjoying the beach, then we advise you to bring everything necessary for the occasion, especially sunscreen! If you’re looking to enjoy a relaxing shopping day, maybe grab a meal or have a fun night out, then be sure to take extra cash. While Punta Cana crime is low and Bavaro Beach is very safe, we still recommend keeping valuable jewelry at home and be cautious of using nice phones as there is pickpocketing from time to time.

Located within the famous Scape Park at Cap Cana, the Hoyo Azul (i.e. Blue Hole) is one of the most sought after Punta Cana attractions. The stunning natural pool, also known as a cenote, boasts crystal clear water and is surrounded by cliffs which will absolutely mesmerize you. This natural sinkhole is lined by steep limestone walls and is the perfect place to cool off on a hot summer day. The walk from the starting point to Hoyo Azul is roughly one mile and weaves through a beautiful trail amongst the jungle where you will learn about native wildlife and plants. The entire tour will help you see the true natural beauty of Punta Cana.

They no longer offer trips solely to Hoyo Azul, so you will need to buy the full ticket to enter Scape Park. However, it is well worth it as there are many great activities within the park which you can also enjoy. The hike isn’t incredibly difficult, but we do recommend wearing shoes (water shoes are a great idea) instead of sandals. We also highly recommend going during the morning hours as the sun hits the water just right and the blue color is truly spectacular. Beyond this we highly advise bringing water as the hike can be quite hot, along with bug spray, camera and the standard attire for swimming. Included in the price of your Scape Park ticket is transport to and from the hotel in Punta Cana so you won’t have to worry about logistics!
